Choosing the right grass type for your lawn in Alberta is important for maintaining a healthy and attractive lawn. Kentucky bluegrass is the most popular and our most recommended type of sod for central Alberta. Fine fescue, perennial ryegrass, and creeping red fescue are other great options to consider.

Soil type, foot traffic, and grass health are all dependent factors for how often your lawn needs to be aerated. The short answer is most lawns benefit from annual aeration. If your lawn doesn't receive a lot of foot traffic you may be able to get away with only doing it every other year. Best time to aerate is in early spring or fall.

The general rule is if you have more than 1/2 of thatch its recommend to power rake every year. If you have less than 1/2 of thatch you only need it every other year. Best time to Power rake is in early spring before new growth.
